What a note is
One more look at what you missed.
Every sound is something shaking.
A guitar string, your voice, a speaker: each one moves back and forth, very fast. Your ears hear that shaking as sound.
Fast shaking sounds high. Slow shaking sounds low.
The slow one shakes about 130 times a second. The fast one, about 520.
No sound? Check your volume, and that your phone is not on silent.
Which one is higher?
High or low: that is called pitch.
A note is one pitch with a name, so musicians can talk about it.
Notes are named with seven letters, A to G.
On a piano they sit on the white keys, and after G they start again from A. The slow and the fast sounds you heard were both C.
Play the white keys from left to right.
Each one sounds a little higher than the one before.
To find C, look at the black keys.
They come in groups of two and three. C is the white key just left of each group of two.
Find C first, then count white keys to the right: C D E F G A B.
